About Roger
Roger D. Reading began his serious interest in photography as a hobby in the early 1980's, taking several evening and adult education courses at Cypress College in Orange County, CA, as well as a number of private photography workshops. At that time, he was learning to use a 4" X 5" view camera, shooting black and white negatives using "Zone System" techniques, and printing archival black and white photographic prints. His major influences were Ansel Adams (who created the "Zone System"), and Brett and Edward Weston. The untimely death of a close friend and photographic mentor caused Roger to put photography aside as a serious pursuit. Years later, the advent of digital photography and the availability of digital photographic equipment capable of producing fine art archival prints in color, re-ignited Roger's interest in photography (specifically Digital Fine Art Photography) as his primary medium of artistic expression. Roger has had a career in Quality Control spanning 25 years, during which time he performed dimensional inspection of precision machined aerospace parts, also operated and programmed computerized Coordinate Measuring Machines. One highlight of that career was a 10-month temporary assignment working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, inspecting parts that were used on the Mars Exploration Rovers, which performed successfully on the planet Mars for over 5 years. At this time he has retired from his inspection career in order to pursue his passion for photography full time. |
